Nutrient streams in the North Pacific

چکیده
The nutrient streams in the North Pacific were examined by analyzing results derived from inverse calculation of World Ocean Circulation Experiment (WOCE)-revisit cruise data. Kuroshio, Alaskan Stream, and Oyashio drive most intensive transport within basin. upper portion stream (lighter than 26.2 kg/m3) contains mode waters recirculates subtropical gyre, while intermediate (26.2–27.15 relates to Intermediate Water (NPIW) contributes stream. concentration increases gyre along Kuroshio Extensions but decreases subarctic Stream region. This increase or decrease upstream region downstream mainly lateral water exchange, although it also partly depends on biogeochemical processes vertical diffusion. Specifically, exchange with lower latitudes nitrate that Okhotsk Sea Oyashio. For transport, our estimation shows ventilation subduction induction are comparable sum advection implies related is a dynamic balance an annual cycle should be quantified future work.

متن کاملNutrient and salinity decadal variations in the central and eastern North Pacific
[1] Long-term timeseries of upper ocean salinity and nutrients collected in the Alaskan Gyre along Line P exhibit significant decadal variations that are shown to be in phase with variations recorded in the Southern California Current System by the California Cooperative Oceanic Fisheries Investigation (CalCOFI). We present evidence that these variations are linked to the North Pacific Gyre Osc...
متن کاملMicro and Macroscale Drivers of Nutrient Concentrations in Urban Streams in South, Central and North America
Global metrics of land cover and land use provide a fundamental basis to examine the spatial variability of human-induced impacts on freshwater ecosystems. However, microscale processes and site specific conditions related to bank vegetation, pollution sources, adjacent land use and water uses can have important influences on ecosystem conditions, in particular in smaller tributary rivers. Comp...
متن کاملNORTH PACIFIC RIGHT WHALE (Eubalaena japonica): Eastern North Pacific Stock
STOCK DEFINITION AND GEOGRAPHIC RANGE A comprehensive review of all 20 century sighting, catches, and strandings of North Pacific right whales was conducted by Brownell et al. (2001). Data from this review were subsequently combined with historical whaling records to map the known distribution of the species (Clapham et al. 2004, Shelden et al. 2005). Although whaling records initially indicate...
متن کاملNutrient limitation of epilithic and epixylic biofilms in 10 North American streams
1. Nutrient diffusing substrata were used to determine the effect of added inorganic nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) on the development of epilithic and epixylic biofilms in 10 North American streams. Four treatments of diffusing substrata were used: Control (agar only), N addition (0.5 M NaNO3), P addition (0.5 M KH2PO4), and N + P combined (0.5 M NaNO3 + 0.5 M KH2PO4). Agar surfaces were cove...
